On September 22, 2023, a significant event unfolded at the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) as ACI IUT Student Chapter welcomed the esteemed delegates from the American Concrete Institute (ACI). The President of American Concrete Institute (ACI), Prof. Dr. Antonio Nanni, accompanied by his wife Valeria Nanni, and the Director of International Business Development at ACI, Mr. Bernie Pekor, visited Bangladesh for the very first time. The purpose of the visit was to engage with the ACI Student Chapters at Bangladesh. Representatives from the ACI Student Chapters at AUST, BUET, CUET, IUBAT, UAP participated in the interaction session. The entire visit of the delegates from ACI was sponsored by GPH Ispat Ltd and hosted by ACI IUT Student Chapter. The inaugural session commenced with a recitation of the Holy Quran, setting a respectful and reflective tone. Subsequently, the chief guest, Prof. Dr. Antonio Nanni, President of ACI, presided by Prof. Dr Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, the Honourable Vice Chancellor of IUT, special guest Mr. Bernie Pekor, Director of International Business Development at ACI, along with Dr. Omar Jah, Pro Vice Chancellor of IUT, Prof. Dr. Hossain Md. Shahin, Head of the Department, Civil and Environmental Engineering Department shared their insights. Prof. Dr. Tarek Uddin, PEngg, the Faculty advisor of the ACI IUT Student Chapter, also expressed gratitude and shared insights.
Later on, all the six ACI Student Chapters at Bangladesh highlighted their respective activities and accomplishments in a presentation session. The session progressed into a vibrant Q&A segment, involving Prof. Dr. Antonio Nanni, Mr. Bernie Pekor, and Prof. Dr. Tarek Uddin, PEngg. An exciting highlight was the prize-giving ceremony for Splice 2.0, an intra-IUT competition organized by ACI IUT Student Chapter, adding a competitive edge to the event. The day culminated with a delightful dinner program at Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel, Dhaka, attended by the distinguished guests, fostering camaraderie and collaboration. This visit was a testament to the commitment of ACI in promoting knowledge sharing and strengthening ties with academic institutions for the advancement of the concrete industry.
