Department of CEE embarked on its journey in 2008 with the aim of development of highly qualified civil engineers who will be responsible for the development of infrastructural facilities for our safe and comfortable livings on this earth including safe transport of people and goods; safe supply of drinking water and proper management of waste in the community; protecting the world against natural hazards, such as floods, typhoons, earthquake, landslide, etc.; and development of technologies for sustainable civil and environmental engineering solutions; etc.
Since its establishment, the department is focusing on continuous improvement of quality of education through (i) development of highly qualified faculties and staff, (ii) development of laboratory facilities for research works, (iii) getting best quality students at the intake, (iv) continuous monitoring and evaluation of the students, (v) counseling in classes and beyond the class hours, (v) arrangement of workshops, seminar, conference, and short courses on special issues in the relevant field, (vi) encouraging students to participate in the extra-curricular activities, (vii) ensuring that our students are directly involved in club activities and competitions, (viii) arrangement of internship for the students in various government and private organizations, (ix) undertaking very good consultancy projects through the department (x) monitoring of the performance of alumni's in the job field, (xi) getting feedback regarding alumni's from the employer, (xii) continuous up-gradation of the syllabus, (xiii) collaboration with academia and industries, (xiv) accreditation of the programs by local and international bodies, etc. As an acknowledgment of this effort, the Civil Engineering program (BSc) of the IUT became the first ever program to achieve the groundbreaking accreditation for a record six years under the mutual recognition from the Washington Accord as well as the Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), a historic first in Bangladesh.
The career opportunities available to our graduates are indeed broad and diverse allowing careers in structural, construction, geotechnical and transportation, environmental assessment and pollution control, and hydrology. After completion of their undergraduate program, a substantial proportion of our graduates continue pursuing higher education in reputed universities across the world. Within a short time, the graduates of the department are playing a vital role in the society for the improvement of mankind and contributing to making the Islamic and Global economy competitive and sustainable.
With a pool of renowned scholars and professional faculty members in the field, the department is conducting state-of-the-art research on recycling, durability, and sustainability of construction materials; earthquake resistant design of structures; tunneling, ground mitigation from liquefaction; finding the effective ways to address transportation problems; controlling pollutions in air, water, and soil; making foundation in soft soil for challenging structures; etc. which are being published regularly in refereed journals.
We invite you to explore our website for ample opportunities that the department offers and contact us if you need further information. Your feedback regarding any issues of the department will be highly appreciated.
