Biography

Dr. Hossain Md. Shahin is currently working as the Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has completed his Ph.D in Geotechnical Engineering from Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan in March, 2004, Master of Engineering in Geotechnical Engineering from the same institution in March 2001 and Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh in July, 1997.Before joining IUT, Dr. Shahin worked as an Associate Professor from April 2008- February 2015, Geotechnical Division, Graduate School of Engineering, Nagoya Institute of Technology, Nagoya, Japan. In the same institute he worked as a Research Associate (November 2007- March 2008), JSPS Research Fellow (November 2005- October 2007). In addition he has been a successful Civil Engineer confronting challenges involving in various geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigations, geotechnical design such as (i) tunnel which is the most demanding underground structure for the modernization and development a well transportation system of a city, (ii) shallow and deep foundations of light and heavy super-structures especially for withstanding the structures under severe earthquake which is frequently seen in Japan, (iii) retaining wall structure used in land reclamation area, excavated area and others, (iv) slope design for establishing a road, (v) design of embankment and soil reclamation for using artificial land in sea etc., and (vi) all kinds of geotechnical analyses such as tunneling, stability analysis of existing slope including mountainous slope, bearing capacity problems, retaining wall problems, ground improvement problems, soil-water coupling problems, earthquake prevention measures, etc
